"The Throop Loop"

In the Header above you can see Hurn Court Lane leading off. If you take this and walk clockwise around on to footpaths you come across the Stour River and Throop Mill with its Weir. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and an easy walk without any hills! Right at our doorstep.

Extraordinary to most that this beauty is so close to Bournemouth and the Airport but you would not know.

"The Pete Gilbert Gourmet Art Workshop"

Taking advantage of the beauty of "The Throop Loop" renowned New Forest and Dorset painter Pete Gilbert is staging two Art workshops here at Heronshaw House during 2012. Pete has been painting rivers such as The Beaulieu River and The Lymington River from Source to the Sea and will be bringing that knowledge here to teach you about painting the Stour in his style. Combined with our Gourmet food this should prove to be two outstanding workshops.

Welcome to Heronshaw House at Hurn an Hotel offering superior accommodation and great local food - ideal for a family celebration, a house party with friends, or just a pampered, relaxing weekend break in traditional farmland and therefore quiet, but surprisingly very close to all major transportation and Bournemouth Airport. Heronshaw House at Hurn is a traditional 17th century stone-built farmhouse, with various brick modifications over the centuries, on the edges of the New Forest. Bournemouth centre is just 10 or 12 minutes away with its wonderful beaches and lovely town centre. The Purbecks are just over the chain ferry at Sandbanks at the head of Poole Harbour another 10 minutes away. This is the Jurassic Coast.

For the Olympics 2012 the Sailing venue is at Weymouth - Bournemouth Airport is the closest airport to the Olympic 2012 Venue and Heronshaw House is the closest accommodation to Bournemouth airport.

We have an up to date news feed about the Olympics 2012 here on our Olympics 2012 page.

In Beautiful Grounds in the Country

bournemouth airport bed and breakfast

My partner and I stayed here for one night as a birthday treat with acitivites planned for the next day. This place is a must for anyone looking for a relaxing and quiet get away. A beautiful house in beautiful surroundings. It's a lovely place to be on a warm summer night, with a bottle of wine out on the patio. We felt very spoilt with the food we had, and I know that it wouldn't be to everyone's taste but the hosts really fussed over us which was perfect as this was a treat! We felt as though the whole place was ours, and they simply couldn't do enough for us. This is a great place for a foodie to go, each course was explained in the way that ony someone who has a real passion for food can. Presumably they were in the restaurant business previously. I have to mention the bathroom also - I believe they must have recently had a refurb when we stayed because out bathroom was just stunning. A massive open shower that could have fit about 8 people in it. I can't think of a negative for this place really other than if you are looking for the typical hotel then this isn't it - we didn't have a tv in our room (we wouldn't have wanted one anyway) but depending on what your looking for the lack of television may not suit you. It is near the airport - but this didn't effect us.

We received an email today 13th Feb 2012 re our Valentines Menu:

Good morning to you both,
Thank you for the delightful dinner you provided for us we enjoyed it on Saturday night as we are out with friends on the day.

Thanks again it was wonderful.

We received an email 26th Jan 2012 re our Lazy Gourmet Hampers supplied at the beginning of Dec 2011:

Hi S.....
Their web site is www.heronshawhouse.com but this does not show hampers as everything is made to order.
Kind regards

Hi J....

We've just been discussing prizes for the P.... competition launching next week and have come up with the idea to have a "luxury breakfast hamper" as 3rd prize. We understand that you know someone who makes good quality hampers (Adam was singing the praises of the one he received!). Would you mind forwarding us some contact details/website address, so that we can investigate further?

Kind Regards

S....

We received an email 14th Jan 2012:

"My husband and I enjoyed a brief but wonderful visit to Heronshaw House in June last year. We would now like to investigate the possibility of organising a house party with you, some time in early 2013. We are part of a group of four couples who have celebrated our birthdays together for thirty years. In 2013 we will be celebrating four 60ths and one 70th birthday so we want to do something really special...like staying at Heronshaw House! We would require a 2 night stay for eight people either in the February half term or Easter school holiday period. Unfortunately, our youngest member is a teacher and will be the only one of us still working then...shame! I know the requested periods are beyond your present booking dates but, at this stage, all I really need to know is whether you think you will be able to accommodate us and a 'ball park' price per couple so that we can ensure that our budgets can stand it!"

What can we say!...Thank you

Thank you so much for the great evening on Tuesday. Everyone loved the venue as it was so much more personal than going to a restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious as we knew it would be......We will certainly recommend Heronshaw House to local friends and would have no hesitation in having 'overflow' guests staying with you another time. This is just a quick e-mail to say thank you for my fabulous party yesterday, you have made me very proud. The official thank you card will be posted as soon as they come back from the printers. Everyone that I have spoken to yesterday only had a very nice things to say about you and your business. They all thought how wonderful the food, venue and of course the birthday cake was. The fact that it was so nice and relaxed it was the biggest selling point. Anyway it was all down to you two and your hard work, so you have deserved a good break.

A&L M [1/6/2011]:

" The warm welcome, the obvious care taken to ensure my stay was comfortable. Food to die for!!! Gourmet cooking with fresh local produce. The Game pie was really special. Beds comfortable, rooms well appointed. This will definitely be the hotel of choice for my business, and i would certainly take my wife there for a weekend away. "

S.W. [23/3/11]:
" You'd be a fool not to stay at Heronshaw House
Our stay at Hersonshaw House surpassed our expectations which were already high having viewed the website. Jenny & Craig gave us a warm welcome on our arrival and then proceeded to treat us like a king and queen throughout our stay. The room with a view over the rear garden and vegetable patch in the distance was tastefully decorated and furnished. The ensuite shower room had a lovely walk in shower. The drawing room is spacious and again very tastefully furnished, a pleasant place to while away the evening in front of the roaring fire after a sumptuous meal in the dining room. This brings me on to the food which is quite simply to die for. We had a three course evening meal cooked by the extremely talented Jenny. The meal was so good my husband and I struggle to remember when we have had a meal as good. Their food philosophy is that food should be natural with no trace of chemicals and then beautifully prepared to create a range of mouthwatering tastes and flavours. As I say you would be a fool not to experience this.

Heronshaw House is located a short hop from Bournemouth Airport, but you really would have no idea because it is situated down a single track country lane and has a rural location. In addition the house is not under any flight path. You therefore feel as if you are staying in the middle of the countryside. For people travelling from the airport it could not be better located. For those wishing to explore the New Forest this is a short drive away. In fact within easy driving distance are a range of landscapes and two counties. Heronshaw House is therefore in a great location from which to go exploring and because of the variety of landscapes within your grasp no two days need be the same.

Service: 6.0
As I said Jenny & Craig treated us like royalty.

Gastronomy: 6.0
To die for, Michelin star standard "

" The proprietors were welcoming, courteous, friendly. My room, though only a single, was reasonably sized, simple and comfortable, and the ensuite had an excellent shower. The visitor rooms (there are two 'parlours') were comfortable, tasteful, relaxing. The food was excellent, and lovingly presented. The hotel is small, and though not 10 mins from busy Bournemouth, blissfully peaceful. There is something quite special about it. I hope I'll have reason to visit again. "

C P [12/4/11]:
" We had a very nice stay at Heronshow House. The property is lovely and set in beautiful countryside. It is very quiet. We were initially concerned about the airport being so close, but the property is not under the flight path and we couldn't hear the planes, only very midly in the background (and we are particularly sensitive to noise). The superior room was very spacious with comfortable and big twin beds. Breakfast was lovely, with exotic fresh fruit, and homemade bread. Very nice place, very peaceful. "

R P [4/4/11]:
" Very peaceful, beautifully restored farm house with every home comfort. "
