CAPTURING THE LANDSCAPE
The Pete Gilbert Way
The agenda:
DAY 1
10am for Coffee [This is an informal gathering of everybody and a time to meet before the day starts so please be prompt for 9:30am]
10.30 Start
Before we set off Pete will talk about and do a quick demo of the materials that you will be using. The first day is about the importance of sketching, before embarking on a painting, understanding the landscape, looking for a
composition, observing the light the sky the reflections on the river, (bring a camera if you have one) how to work your sketches up to be
finished pieces of art or use them as a starting point for a more complex piece of work.
We will drive / walk to a location on the River Stour and work to about 1pm
All back to the house for Gourmet Lunch at 1.15 pm.
From 2.30 ish ....depending on lunch...!! into the studio where we will develop the morning sketches, either finishing off in pastel or working on our sketches in watercolour, building up the layers until happy with the end result and a final review of the days work. Finishing at about 4.15
DAY 2
Meet for coffee at 9:30am
Starting at 10am with a talk and demonstration to re-enforce and progress the style of Pete Gilbert.
There is an option for the group to go out, or to stay in the studio, for this days workshop. The default is to stay in [all dependent on the weather for the two days eg wet the first day, stay in, and vice versa go out the second.]
Pete will supply a comprehensive range of source material to work from of the Stour and other to suit your tastes and style and you are here to further develop the techniques started on day one.
All art materials will be supplied but please bring your own if you want to.
